These terms govern your use of inlandbirdbanding.org, operated by the Inland Bird Banding Association (“IBBA,” “we,” “us”), a nonprofit organization. By using the site, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

About the Site

The site provides information about IBBA, bird banding, our meetings and publications, and membership. Content is provided for general information and education.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the site lawfully and respectfully. You will not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its servers, or other users’ accounts
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to copy the site at scale or to overload it
  • Upload or transmit malware, spam, or unlawful, harassing, or misleading content
  • Impersonate another person or organization
  • Use member or contact information from the site to send unsolicited bulk messages

We may block access to anyone who violates these terms or threatens the site’s security.

Content You Submit

If you send us comments, photographs, articles, or other material, you confirm that you have the right to share it. You keep ownership of your work. You give IBBA a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display it on the site and in IBBA publications, with credit where you have asked for it. We may decline or remove any submission at our discretion.

Intellectual Property

The site’s text, design, logos, and other content belong to IBBA or its contributors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Photographs and articles may be owned by the individuals who created them.

You may view the site and share links to it. You may print or download pages for personal, educational, or non-commercial use if you keep any copyright notices intact. Any other use, including republishing or commercial use, requires our written permission.

If you believe material on the site infringes your copyright, contact us at the address below with the page address and a description of the material, and we will review it promptly.

Disclaimers and Limits of Liability

Information only. Content on the site, including banding protocols, permit information, and data, is general information. It is not a substitute for official guidance. Anyone banding or handling birds must follow the rules of the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Laboratory, the Canadian Bird Banding Office, and any state, provincial, or local permitting authority. Check those sources directly before acting.

As-is service. We work to keep the site accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We don’t promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted.

Limit of liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, IBBA and its officers, volunteers, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content.

Third-party links. The site may link to other websites. We don’t control them and are not responsible for their content or practices.

Governing Law and Changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Winnebago County, Illinois.

We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date above shows the latest revision, and continued use of the site means you accept the changes. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
